If there’s one thing I love as much as writing, it’s guiding others on their own writing journey.
My kind, thorough, and inclusive approach to structural editing allows authors to dig deeper into their manuscripts, solving plot and character problems, refining story elements, all while feeling supported and encouraged to make their stories the best they can be.
Newer authors: A structural edit (also known as a developmental edit) is ideal for budding authors who have achieved the legendary feat of finishing a manuscript. My edits will help you feel confident that you’ve woven all crucial story elements into an engaging, smooth story. I’ll support you with encouraging, easy-to-follow feedback—with solutions!
Established authors: As an established author, you know how to write a solid story. My structural edit will provide you with extensive mark-up and a detailed report brimming with comprehensive, honest feedback to strengthen your work.
Partial edit: If your love for your WIP is suffering because you feel stuck, a partial edit can help! My partial structural edit is ideal for when you can’t seem to figure out what happens next—or when you know what happens next but can’t figure out how to get there.
What I look for in a structural edit: Characterisation (including GMC, character arcs, and consistent actions/reactions), plot cohesion, narrative structure, pacing, tension, setting, continuity of details, timelines, the romantic development (for romance novels!) and more.
What you receive:
- A marked-up digital manuscript with comments and suggested edits (offered in a helpful, constructive way with examples on how to implement any changes)
- A structural report detailing focus areas of the manuscript that could be revised (as well as cheering you on for all the things I loved!)
- Optional: a character bible
- Optional: a timeline calendar
Turn-around time:
You will generally receive a structural edit on a manuscript that is 80k words (or less) in two weeks. Structural edits over 80k might take me closer to three weeks. Proofreads of up to 100k words are returned to you in one week. Longer word counts might necessitate a few extra days. If you are in need of an urgent edit, please reach out and I’ll see whether I can accommodate it!
My rates:
For structural edits, I charge AUD$0.25 per word. For proofreads, I charge AUD$0.008 per word. If you are based outside of Australia, this rate will be calculated on the current currency conversion at the time of booking confirmation.
