ELLE Australia
ELLE Australia has published an article on feminism in romance novels (in its June/July issue), and I’m thrilled to be one of the authors featured. I could talk about equality and enthusiastic consent all day! I’ve included a quote(left).
What I’ve been writing
I spent 2017 writing my first single title contemporary romance. It’s complete and I’m working to find a home for it. More recently, I’ve written another contemporary for Tule Publishing. It’s called THE WEDDING OBSESSION and it will be out August 27th, 2018. This is my favourite story yet and I’m so excited that you’ll be able to read it later this year!
What I’ve been reading
When I’m in the thick of writing a book (which is most of the book), I sacrifice reading time for more writing. This year, I’ve been determined to do better, and thanks to a friend’s solid recommendations, I’ve consumed many brilliant books so far.
I started with Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl and Carry On, both YA romances revolving around the world of fanfiction. I moved onto Sarah J Maas’ Court of Thorns and Roses series, which blows the top off any sexual tension I’d previously encountered (book two, I’m talking rather breathlessly to you). Then there was Sarah Rees Brennan’s In Other Lands, a hilarious, subversive YA fantasy that I can’t recommend highly enough (READ IT).
I’m currently reading Eleanor & Park, another young adult romance by Rainbow Rowell, and Every Heart a Doorway, by Seanan McGuire. I’m definitely on a YA spree and loving every minute.
What I’ve been watching
It can be a minefield trying to find decent films and series, but here are a few that I’d recommend. One Day at a Time is a sitcom on Netflix that follows the life of a Cuban family living in America. It’s heartfelt, covers relevant issues, and always makes me laugh and cry in EVERY EPISODE. I’ve come late to Broadchurch, a devastating crime drama, with masterful acting and music composition, but a heartbreaking setup that makes it pretty hard going. Love, Simon is a romantic comedy and coming-out film—my sisters and I saw it together at the cinemas and adored it. More diverse romance on the big screen, please!
The Wedding Obsession
I’ve finished copy-edits and proofs for this book, and it’s currently going through formatting. I’m waiting on a cover, but know that Tule Publishing will deliver something gorgeous!
Until then,
